Fees

O’Brien Street Practice is a privately operated clinic. We request that all patients settle their accounts at the end of their consultation. We accept all major credit cards, with the exception of American Express. EFTPOS facility is also available for payment via our TYRO terminal. With this facility, we can process the full payment via credit card or EFTPOS, then by transmitting the receipt to Medicare electronically, re-swipe your card and have the Medicare rebate transferred to either your savings or cheque account.

TYRO cannot refund your Medicare rebate into a credit facility- it must be either savings or cheque. If you wish to receive your Medicare rebate as a cheque in the mail, we can still arrange this for you.

If you wish to pay only the gap on your visit, this will cost you $35 and it is your responsibility to forward the Medicare cheque for the rest of the payment to us.

By paying your account in full at the time of the consultation, the difference between what Medicare pays and what we charge as a discounted account is $25, so it is slightly cheaper for you to pay in full at the time of the consultation.

Bulk billing is available for concession cardholders and children under 16 for medical services. Please present your current concession card to reception for this service.

Please note that fees are calculated on the actual duration and content of a consultation rather than the length of appointment booked. For surgical procedures the Schedule Fee is usually charged and Medicare rebates 85%.

Pathology tests in this practice are usually sent to SA Pathology. If you sign the pathology Medicare form, the laboratory will charge no further fee. When you are referred for radiological investigations or specialist opinion you are advised to contact the provider in advance about the fees to be charged.

For new patients, we allow half an hour for the initial appointment: this enables both you and your doctor time to discuss your history.

If you choose to receive SMS text reminders, you must either respond to the message which is sent out the day before your appt.

Type YES to keep the appointment or type NO to cancel.

If you don't respond to this message, we will remove your appointment and offer it to someone else.

Missed appointments and cancellations
First-time late cancellations or missed appointments receive a warning by phone followed by an explanatory letter. Any subsequent instances will result in a bill.

20 minute appt- $60.00

30 minute appt- $95.00

40+ minute appt- $130.00

These charges are not claimable through Medicare as they are not Medicare Items.

No further appointments will be made until the outstanding amount has been paid.

If you are unable to keep your appointment, we require at least four hours notice in advance so that we can use the appointment time for another patient. If you need to cancel an appointment outside of business hours, a message can be left on our answering machine.

Transfer of notes to another Practice

Medical notes are released to another Practice upon receipt of a signed release on Practice letterhead. They are sent via registered post as per  RACGP Standards for General Practice and a fee for this request is charged at the discretion of the treating GP. A brief medical summary is sent to another GP practice at no charge.
